I am 16 weeks pregnant with twins, this is my first pregnancy. I get so tired of getting asked " how are you feeling", and well meaning people saying "don't worry you will feel better once that third month is over." I usually just smile and nod and say that was over a month ago. I am so tired that even getting out of bed to go to work, or simple house chores take an unbelievable amount of effort. I am 30 years old. Lots of my friends have already had kids and tell me about how they rode horses up until the 8th month and I should just suck it up. I guess I'm really looking for some reassurance that feeling this awful is normal. I have only gained 4 lbs so far which worries me, but I will be starving, and when I try to eat something I only get about 4 bites that are enjoyable and the rest I just choke down. I have awful hip and back pain at night which makes it hard to sleep, and horrible headaches during the day so that I can't even see straight. I am wondering how I'm going to make it through the next few months. On the other hand I am really excited about having twins. It was supposed to be hard for me to even get pregnant in the first place, and we weren't even trying for this one. I guess I just have to hang in there, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with these issues (friends unthinking comments, and the actual symptoms) I'm all ears. |

Reply with quote | #2 | Your friends are referring to their singleton pregnancies I predict. Carrying twins can be a lot different, as many moms here will tell you. Generally, feeling fatigue in the early months is common even with one baby, so you can count on feeling it two-fold when carrying twins. I think I was tired through the entire process...and then some...lol! Personally, I always had morning sickness (all day) with each pregnancy, including my twins. That's another common symptom that can be amplified with twin pregnancy. Just remember, everyone is different and will have a unique experience. Some of us truly dislike pregnancy, feel horrible through the whole thing, etc. And for some, it's a piece of cake! Go figure :-) You are really in a whole different ball game when you are having twins, so don't hesitate to remind friends of your special circumstances. I can sense your excitement, so hang in there and welcome to the club! You have a lot of support here! __________________ Kellie - Forum Moderator

Thanks for the encouragment. I really am excited despite all the complaining. I guess some days I deal with it better than others. I'm a nurse and have worked in newborn nursery and post-partum and I always thought "I'm glad there are no twins in my family". When I found out I was having twins (in the ER at 4 weeks for abd pain) my first thought was "oh no I have to breastfeed TWINS", but now my husband and I feel truly blessed and we can't wait until they are here. On the bright side I only have to be pregnant once and I get 2 babies!!! |

Reply with quote | #4 | Hi, Im 13 weeks pregnant with twins, only found out last week! this is my first pregnancy so im really paranoid and have been reading so many stories on what can go wrong! all i want is my babies to be born healthy and strong. We weren't planning on children just yet so it was quite a shock but i fell in love with them when i saw them on the ultrasound!
I too have been very tired, and spend my weekends napping on the couch! i have been getting mild cramping as well but have been told this is my womb stretching? |

Reply with quote | #5 | Yes, it's true. It could be your ligaments stretching from all that's going on! I had the same thing. There's no need to worry unless you start bleeding like you're on your period. Then go to your doctor right away! But otherwise you are healthy and perfect, and so are your babies. When you're pregnant, your joints also begin to loosen around there so your body can be prepared for labor. When you feel the cramping, be happy! It means your babies are growing and soon, you will be too!
And don't worry about horror stories! There will always be good and bad with anything but the most important thing is that you stay calm and stress-free for your babies. They can feel what you feel, and they want their mommy to be happy. That's the best way you can make sure they're healthy! Just remember-you ARE having twins. There's a lot more to celebrate than to fear! __________________ Whitney |

Reply with quote | #6 | If it will help you any, I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins. It is my first pregnancy at 45yo via embryo adoption/donation...and I am single, never married. I have not felt well for the past month with ongoing nausea and vomiting. I am now taking Zofran and anti-nausea medication which has helped tremendously. I too have found myself more fatigued but will simply take naps on the weekend and go to bed earlier on week days. I pray this nausea and diminished taste and appetite will subside soon. I am excited for my twins though a bit scared in how I will be able to handle this alone. Hang in there....we will get through this! __________________ Kathleen |

Reply with quote | #7 | I am now 26 weeks and the nausea has finally subsided (at about 24 weeks). I still don't have any real taste for food but eat all the time because I am hungry. I am feeling over all better since I cut my hours at work. My babies (both girls although my husband says the US is wrong!!!!!!) are growing really well. At the last US they weighed 1lb 11oz and 1lb 13oz @ 24 weeks. All the tests and US have shown no problems. I am ready to not be pregnant anymore and am very tired but I know the end is in sight and I'm just happy they are healthy even if Mom is having a hard time and not well. I work as a school nurse and while I never used to get sick even when I worked in the hospital it seems now I catch everything and it takes forever to get well. I guess all my energy goes to the babies. Good luck to all Jaz |

Reply with quote | #9 | I am just 9 weeks preggy of IVF twins too. this is my first baby also and i'm already 36 years old. what makes me depressed is that until now i'm still bleeding but not so much though compared to the first day of bleeding. I thought that time i will lost my baby but thanks God they're both still in my womb and they're healthy. I have to take some medications though until now and have to stay in bed the whole time.
I am not sure if others have this bleeding experience also. I always feel bad these days with all these pains and nausea. I also become so picky of foods. Although i am really very excited to be a mom as me and hubby had been waiting this after 10 years of marriage but sometimes i just can't helped but be depressed especially if i see some blood spot.

Hello everyone I am 16 weeks pregnant with twins today and I have only gained 2 and a half pounds for the entire time. I am not suffering from severe morning sickness. I did lose appetite for the first two months or so but since then I´ve been eating enoughhhhhh....Unfortunally I live in Spain as my husband was relocated here from work and here even having a twin pregnacy you see your doctor once a month. So my appointment is not till thrusday. I was wondering if anyone else has gained so little weight and if their babies were doing ok. I am sort of worried....thanks |

Reply with quote | #12 | Hey Emma!
I am exactly 16 weeks pregnant today. I haven't been to the Dr's in almost about a week in a half. But, when I went then I had only gained 2 pounds as well! (I was surprised, as my stomach isn't so flat anymore I had expected to gain at least 5!) I did not have morning sickness once and I feel totally "normal"- despite being a bit more hungry and a bit more tired than usual. So, my pregnancy sounds similar to yours thus far! My mother has been a labor and delivery nurse for 25 years and my doctor is wonderful; I feel as if I am getting great care and go to the Dr. quite often. I have been talking him into giving me extra ultrasounds because I find them so fun! So far, everything is going great! Their heartbeats are strong and they are growing normally and look very healthy. The last ultrasound I had I could even see them moving a little! I go a week from tomorrow to my big ultrasound. Hopefully I will be able to find out if they are girls/boys/both! Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that I am experiencing much of the same things you are and I am confident that I am doing just fine! Everyone will tell you, every woman's body reacts differently. As far as the weight gain, my doctor said that I will gain the weight when I need to and it is nothing to be worried about! I think because I am still active and working and my body is working so hard, I am burning calories super fast and therefore the weight is showing up on the scale. Well, I'm not a doctor but this has been my experience so far. I think we are actually pretty lucky and I don't think you should worry or stress about it!! Congratulations! |

Reply with quote | #13 | Dear Misslindsay: As you can see I posted the thread in March so it´s been quite some time now. I am glad that things are going so well for you and I wish for them to keep going that way. Unfortunally for me they didn´t. I lost my twins about a month after that, but I am blessed again as today I am 30 weeks into a singleton pregnancy and we are very happy to be welcoming another baby girl. Anyways keep us updated on your pregnancy. Take care |
